Junior Coaching

We run various tennis coaching programmes for children of all ages (from age 3 and over) and all abilities - from complete beginners to those wishing to improve their game as well as advanced players.

Structure of the Junior Coaching Programme

Stage 1 - Under 8 Tennis

  • For juniors aged between 4 & 6 years
  • An excellent way for those youngsters who cannot wait until they are old and big enough to venture onto a full-size tennis court
  • Played with specialised balls, incorporating coordination and footwork skills enabling control of the body & racquet head
  • Courses are held after school during term time or at weekends
  • Courses are over an 8 to 12 week period of 45 minutes or 1 hour duration each week
  • All equipment is provided

Stage 2 - Junior Beginner Tennis Courses

  • For juniors from 7 years upwards
  • However, it is normal for these courses to be attended by 7 to 14 year olds. Older juniors often prefer to join the Adult Beginner courses - see the Adult Coaching Programme
  • Courses are ideal for the complete beginner or player wishing to learn the correct technique for the 3 most important strokes of the game
  • Courses are held during school holidays and during half-terms
  • Courses are 6 hours in length, usually held over 3 days
  • Payment is made in advance for the course

Stage 3 - Junior Squads

  • This is the heart of the junior coaching programme
  • For all juniors who have at least an understanding of the basics in tennis
  • Squad with Maximum of 8 pupils to 1 coach
  • Squads meet at the same time each week, usually for 1 hour
  • All aspects of tennis are taught ie. technique, strategy, fitness, rules, psychology
  • Players are placed into a squad according to their standard and technical ability (NOT by AGE) Please see below
  • Squad D = for players still developing sound technique and not able to rally properly other than against the coach
  • Squad C = for players who can rally to each other and are starting to learn good strategy whilst developing better strokes
  • Squad B = for players who play well but are learning game plans, speciality strokes and more advanced strategies
  • Squad A = for fairly advanced players, and experienced and successful tournament players
  • You can pay for the term, or just for each session attended

Stage 4 - Elite Squad

  • A smaller squad, for players who are dedicated & very committed to tennis, and have aspirations of becoming World-Class
  • Players are selected for the Elite Squad from the Junior Squads but it may also include adults (over 18 years of age)
  • Held at least twice a week and are an extra to the Junior Squads
